Where does the tour start?
The tour starts just outside the main entrance to The Scotsman Hotel, 20 North Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1TR. A guide will be there up to 15 mins before your allocated slot to greet and direct you. Please aim to be there 15 mins early.
Do I have to book or can I just turn up?
We strongly advise you to book in advance here. We limit tour group numbers so that everyone can get the most from their experience, not to mention – Edinburgh can be pretty busy at Fringe time!
How much walking is involved?
The tour is just under a mile (1.5 kilometres) and takes approximately 90 minutes. There are stairs, inclines, cobbles and closes (Scottish passageways). An umbrella, waterproof clothing and comfortable, flat shoes are always highly recommended.
Can we bring children?
Children aged five and over are welcome on the tour! Young people aged 5 to 15 must attend with an adult present.
We strongly suggest that customers turn up at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before the tour is due to start. It may be possible to wait a few minutes but we cannot guarantee this. No-shows will have their ticket forfeited with no refund.
I have other fringe shows to attend. Will my tour finish exactly on time?
The tours last approximately 90 minutes. Traffic, road works, and weather can all change our calculations; hence we make no promises that tours will finish within the allotted time. Speak to one of our guides on the day if you have to leave early and they will direct you further.
Are tours ever cancelled because of bad weather?
Tours will continue even if it’s raining, snowing or windy: it is Scotland after all! If you are unsure, email us on the day of your tour to check: Our guides are good at finding sheltered spots en route but warm and waterproof clothing are also recommended. For Fringe we’d always recommend carrying a compact umbrella!
Are there toilet facilities on the route?
We’d recommend ensuring you visit the toilet before the tour begins. For emergencies: the tours are in areas with lots of cafes, bars, and shops with facilities. Due to shows, filming, rehearsals, and events we can’t always guarantee access to venues enroute, but we will try and accommodate as best we can.
We are a large group, can we join?
We’d love to see you! If you are able to book tickets for your group online then great! If you wish to organise a private tour for a group larger than 10 people then we can organise this and we’ll work with you to tailor the tour just for your group, making a special fringe experience! Will we see inside specific venues?
We always aim to take tour guests inside certain venues but cannot always guarantee it. The fringe can present very busy and unexpected schedule changes for venues which can prevent us from gaining access. This is predominately an outdoor walking tour.
Is photography allowed?
We want you to create long lasting memories at the Fringe so selfies and photographs are actively encouraged! We’d be delighted if you share your tour experiences on our Facebook or Instagram pages.

Is the tour in English?

I have mobility issues. Are the tours suitable for me?
The tours involve inclines, uneven ground, stairs and narrow passageways over a period of 90 mins at a distance of approx. 1.5 kilometers. We are working directly on the varied landscape of historic Edinburgh at the height of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, so conditions can be busy and change unexpectedly. Contact us and we will do our best to advise how suitable the tour may be. We cannot be held liable for any cost or inconvenience incurred if we are unable to accommodate you or any member of your party.
What is your refund policy?
Once a ticket is purchased, no refunds will be given unfortunately. We may be able to allocate you another tour slot if you cancel and contact us at least 24 hours before your initial booking time. Email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Cancellations in the 24 hours before your tour slot, and no shows at the time of your tour slot will not be refunded.
We’ve had a few drinks, can we still attend the tour?
As much as we hope everyone has an enjoyable time, we have the right to refuse anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol deemed unsafe or obstructive to our tours. We have the right to eject you from a tour should any of our staff feel you are disrupting or negatively effecting the tour. No refund will be given if you are asked to leave.
